Could This Be eBay's Main Competition?

Buying Performance Auto Parts Online

Often,
in pulling off a number of things, the one way to remain sane throughout the
entire encounter is to retain a bit of order, to give oneself a coherent structure
to follow. So if the matter has to do with buying performance
auto parts online
, the first thing you have to do is obviously to build
up on a plan. With all pertinent details and information laid out on a neat,
tidy arrangement, you’ll feel like everything is already starting to fall
in place, even before you’ve taken the first step.

So here’s the plan. The first thing, the first and foremost, is to determine
significant—key—information that can help you find whatever missing
part it is that your ride needs. Follow the vein of thought and two ideas will
pop up here: auto parts and online. These
are the areas that your search must obviously focus on. Why online? In this
day and age, a number of automotive suppliers have sprung up left and right
in the Internet, opening a whole new world of convenience and flexibility. Why
go to all the bother of checking out an auto part shop personally, with all
the trouble and effort the trip will surely entail, if you can just acquire
the replacement parts you wish to with only
a single click of the mouse? No need to move from where you are. Nor will you
need to wrack up transportation costs since you won’t be going anywhere
in the first place.

If
you’re an extremely busy individual, with plenty of things on your day–to-day
plate to see to, the notion of carving up a lousy few minutes just so you can
sprint to the auto parts supplier nearest to your current location does not
sound awfully handy and convenient. Besides, there’s no telling what may
happen if you decide to set off for the auto parts supplier. Vicious traffic
build-ups, brave animals appearing and dashing towards the middle of the road,
three seconds before you run over them, and other road mishaps tend to shake
most drivers’ beliefs in the credibility of good faith and in the notion
that everything will turn out for the best, even when your ride is in desperate
need of this engine part or that exhaust item. Which is why, online is better.
And because online commerce has since boomed, a number of auto
parts suppliers
have already sprang up out there, offering great items like
disc brake conversion kits or rotors, even air filters or ac compressors, at
discount prices with excellent service. And though they certainly won’t
fall at your feet in packs, I think it’s the same assumption that online
search engines will make your job easier for you since all you have to do is
type the words in. Remember to check on the available information on the company,
though. You’re not just looking for any sort of car parts but for performance
auto parts so make sure the supplier is reliable.

When you have the info and you’ve gone online, what else is there to do?
Well, just one more thing. After all, there’s one characteristic that
all human pursuits must share and this is—yep—persistence. So whether
you are looking for car parts like wheel
alloys or other equally elusive wheel and tire accessories on this planet, the
key to getting your hands on them is pretty simple: keep at it. And sooner or
later, those performance auto parts will
land right on your lap.

The Frugal Duchess: Is Back-to-School Shopping A Big Scam? The Hype & The Numbers

The Frugal Duchess: Is Back-to-School Shopping A Big Scam? The Hype & The Numbers
When and why did back-to-school shopping become such a spending big holiday? The average family will spend about “$563.49 on back-to-school merchandise, up 6.9 percent from last year’s $527.08 average. Total back-to-school spending this year is expected to reach $18.4 billion,” according to data from the National Retail Federation.

Here’s how we’ll spend the money:

Electronics: $129.24 vs. $114.38 in 2006
Footwear: $108.42 vs. $98.34
School supplies: $94.02 vs. $86.22
Clothing and accessories: $231.80 vs. $228.14 in 2006

With a 13 percent year-over-year increase, electronics represent the back-to-school category with the largest hike. Here the explanation from the National Retail Federation:

“Electronics have evolved from luxuries to necessities, not only for college students but also for their younger siblings,” said NRF President and CEO Tracy Mullin. “While some students may be pleading with mom and dad for an iPod or a cell phone, parents are also investing in desktop or laptop computers, educational software and printers to support their children’s learning.”

Hmmmm? Is this just hype?

Online Auctions: A New Way of Shopping

Description: Online auctions operate on the same principles as the real auctions, but they have the mass appeal, which reaches out to the ordinary Internet users. They are an easy and fun way to buy a product of your choice.

Hearing of auctions always used to bring up visions of a grand room, with the auctioneer standing on a raised platform, taking bids from dressed up people in a dignified manner, and slapping his hammer with a bang on the table every time some one won a bid.

It used to be something that one saw in a movie or a rich people thing, which the average middle class person could not associate with. But with the advent of Internet into every facet of our lives, be it keeping in touch with friends, shopping and even dating and marriage, auctions have also become a routine part of an average internet user’s life.

There are innumerable auction sites, selling everything from a pen to a used car and even houses if you want to bid from them. You think of what you want and you’ll find it on one of the auction sites. All you have to do is sign up, get registered and bid a price for that item.

As in real auctions the highest bidder wins the bid, but because the online bids take a long time to close, you have the advantage to checking if your bid has been surpassed and put a higher price on it again. The sites predetermine the increment that you can put on an existing bid. This ensures that the prices are not driven up and more people can stay in the bidding game.

The bids placed are binding so don’t bid on something just for the fun of it, the sites ensure to take your credit card details at the time of registration so you can’t back out. You will find the best deals on the auction sites and the price that you pay for the items by bidding on them will often be less than it’s market value.

Auction basics

There are a few simple rules that you can follow to get the best out of an auction deal:

1) Don’t stick to a single site- keep looking for better bids on the countless sites on the net.

2) Always bid on the auctions that will not stay open for a long period of time. Longer bids will automatically get more hits, thus minimizing your chances of staying ahead on it. Bids with shorter time limit, for example one that ends in a week are better.

3) Most of the items displayed on the site for auction could be misspelled, which means that not many would have got to that item and placed any bids. Always try to search for these items because the price would always be low on them.

4) Don’t bid a higher price than what you want to pay for a product, just because you don’t want to lose out on it. Remember that there are other sites, which will most probably have the item you want to buy.

A little online research and some patience can get you the product you want to buy, at a lower price than the market on an online auction site. Don’t wait, just sign up and have fun bidding!

Are They Watching You Online?

by Jim Edwards
When surfing the Internet you probably take your anonymity
for granted, most of us do.

Tapping phones, listening to confidential conversations,
reading others' e-mail messages seems like something that
only happens in spy movies to "other" people.

However, you probably don't realize just how much
information about yourself has the potential to get
transmitted across the Internet every time you go online.

Every computer connected to the Internet has "ports" that
allow it to connect. A "port" doesn't mean you have a
physical hole or opening in your computer's case or
hardware, but it does mean you have openings through which
information passes back and forth between your computer and
the Internet.

Depending on the type of connection (dial up, LAN, cable,
DSL), you may have several openings for potential mischief
by hackers, malicious code or viruses.

Computers with dedicated connections rate the most at risk.
If someone or something gets into one of these ports and
into your computer, they can potentially watch everything
you do and see all the data you enter, including social
security numbers and credit card information.

The easiest way to defeat this problem involves using a
firewall. Firewalls, simple and inexpensive software
available at virtually any office supply or computer store,
block the most common ports hackers use to enter your
computer.

Firewalls also help you detect and block unauthorized
transmission of information from your computer to the
Internet. This adds a significant measure of protection if
you get infected with a Trojan Horse virus that tries to
"phone home" to the hacker with your sensitive information.

If you'd like to test your connection for vulnerability to
attack, log on to http://security1.norton.com/ and run the
various diagnostics. I would strongly advise anyone
connected to the Internet through DSL or cable to get and
use a firewall to protect against unauthorized access.

Infected with "Spyware?"

Previously we talked about unauthorized access to your
computer. But a growing problem online with people watching
you and your activities involves using programs you
willingly place on your computer.

Commonly called "Spyware," this refers to any program that
transmits information about you to someone else without you
knowing exactly what gets sent. The main purpose of Spyware
involves tracking your surfing habits so advertisers know
which targeted ads to send you.

Most Spyware basically comes onto your computer bundled
with other software applications, as a standalone program,
or as modification to the HTML on a web page.

Regardless of how you get it, you need to understand
exactly what information gets transmitted about you so you
can decide whether to keep or uninstall the software. Plain
and simple, these Spyware programs can potentially reveal
extremely sensitive information about you and your online
habits.

If you have concerns about Spyware and whether or not your
computer currently carries any, log on to www.lavasoft.de
and check out the free PC software that will scan your
system for known Spyware.
